Château de Villandry, located in the Loire Valley of France, is renowned for its stunning Renaissance gardens. The château was constructed in the early 16th century by Jean Le Breton, who was King Francis I's Finance Minister. Le Breton demolished an earlier medieval fortress, retaining only the keep, to build the present château. Château de Villandry remained in the Le Breton family until the 18th century when it changed hands several times.
In 1906, Joachim Carvallo, a Spanish doctor, and his American wife, Ann Coleman, purchased the château. Carvallo dedicated himself to restoring the gardens to their Renaissance glory, investing considerable time and resources. Today, Château de Villandry is still privately owned by Carvallo's descendants and is open to the public, attracting visitors from around the world.
