The gardens of Château du Rivau are a magnificent example of thematic and historical gardening, designed to enchant and inspire visitors. Spread over 14 hectares, these gardens are recognised as a "Jardin Remarquable" by the French Ministry of Culture, highlighting their exceptional beauty and botanical diversity. Purchased and lovingly restored by the Laigneau family over the past 30 years, the gardens were designed by Patricia Laigneau, who infused each small garden with its own unique colour scheme.

Patricia Laigneau’s design emphasises biodiversity, utilising many old plant varieties that thrive in their natural environment. This approach ensures the gardens are a haven for wildlife and a model of sustainable gardening practices. The gardens are also romantic in theme, with each section designed to evoke emotions and tell a story.

2. The Perfume Garden: A sensory delight, this garden is dedicated to aromatic plants and flowers and pathways lined with fragrant roses, lavender, and other scented flora, creating a symphony of smells.

3. The Vegetable Garden of Gargantua: Inspired by the legendary giant Gargantua from Rabelais' novels, this garden features oversized vegetables and fantastical plant arrangements. It’s a playful homage to the abundance and fertility of nature, where everything seems larger than life.
