New Year in Holland - Renesse

Renesse is the province of Zeeland is situated on the isle of Schouwen-Duiveland and has beautiful clean beaches and wonderful scenery. It is the perfect place to spend New Year and I love it. The village was built up around the James Church ring and dates back to 1244 when Count William II of Holland and Zeeland gave the Ten Duinen monks permission to be free of charges to trade and tolls. 
I visited the museum in Zierikzee, a small old city on the Schouwen Duiveland Island and is the capital of the Zierikzee municipality. Zierikzee with its many beautiful old buildings and gates is also known as a museum city. 

The city was founded in the Middle Ages and the town was granted town privileges in the 13th century.  This is a charming city steeped in history with three well preserved city gates.  Zuidhavenpoort  is the oldest and the Zeelandbrug bridge connects  Noord Beveland with Schouwen Duiveland. The impressive St Lievensmonstertoren tower dates back to the 13th century and is adored with an image of Neptune, the God of the sea. It rained when we were there so it was a chance to capture reflections on the pavements.
