Arrington and Wimpole Estate -

Arrington was entered in the Domesday book 1086 and spelt as Erningtune. It is situated on the A1198 road, the old Roman Ermine Street. By the 13th century, the village was known as Aring(e)ton(e). The probable meaning was 'farmstead of the family or followers of a man called Earn. Flint tools have been found along the spring line around Church Farm.

There are 20 listed buildings in Arrington. Among them are the Church, old post office and shop, nine houses, two milestones along Ermine Street, Wraggs Farmhouse and its barn, an old granary, the Hardwicke Arms Hotel and entrance gates and piers to Wimpole Hall.

It is situated next to the Wimpole Estate. It was from this village we made our walk.
