Wroxeter Roman City - Viriconium Cornoviorum

Wroxeter Roman City is an English Heritage site.  Viriconium Cornoviorum was  legionary fortress in the 1st Century AD,  the town was established in 90 AD.  It was abandoned in 7th Century after being conquered by the Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Mercia though there continued to be inhabitants around St. Andrews Church.  I had an afternoon to explore and I found the Roman site, church and an English Vineyard and only 20 minutes away from Shrewsbury!   There is a recreated house and it gives a great example of a dwelling comparable with that dwellings in Pompeii. One can see amazing excavations of the city especial "the old work" the impressive tall structure. Double bands of orange-red tiles separate the stonework.
